About Silky Saws

Silky saws are made in Japan by a company which has specialised in the manufacture of saws since 1919.  Unique technology and design has resulted in an extensive range of saws with superb cutting ability.  Silky saws cut as you pull the blade towards you.  They do not cut on the forward or push stroke.  Cutting on the pull stroke requires less energy and gives you more control over the acrtion of the saw.

The information below provides the key to understanding the applications of the saws.

Conical Setting Free Means:

Blades are made from a high carbon steel and taper ground i.e thinner at the tooth edge, thinner at the back of the blade.  This taper reduces resistance giving smoother, easier, faster cutting performance.

Hard Chrome Plating Means:

Hard chrome plating produces an exceedingly hard, durable surface.  The blades are resistant to rust and the effects of some tree resin.  They are finely or mirror polished and wipe clean easily.

4-RETSUME Means:

Literally four rows of teeth.  Silky 4-Retsume saws have teeth set in a way that there appears to be 4 rows of teeth.  Saws marked with the 4-Retsume symbol are rough cutting hand saws for heavier tasks.  They cut on the PULL stroke for faster, more efficient cutting and excellent free flowing discharge or chips.  Silky 4-Retsume saws can rip-cut, cross-cut and slant-cut.

Gom Handles Mean:

Almost all Silky saws have a special award winner rubber handle.  The rubber is either inserted or vulcanised to ABS plastic or steel.  Rubber handles are comfortable to hold, reduce vibration and offer superior grip when hands are wet, cold and when wearing gloves.

Sharpenable Means:

These saws have not received a hardening treatment and so can be sharpened with a special diamond shaped file.

MIRAI-ME tooth setting Means:

Teeth of the future!  Silky taper saws marked with the MIRAI-ME symbol have percision ground, razor sharp teeth.  This gives faster, more efficient cutting and excellent free flowing discharge of chips.  They leave an especially smooth surface after cutting and are ideal for pruning, greatly reducing the risk of infection.  Silky MIRAI-ME saws can rip-cut, cross-cut and slant-cut.  They cut on the PULL stroke for faster, more efficient cutting.

Impulse Hardening Means:

Teeth of blades are heated and hardened by a special high frequency heating technique, while unheated remainder of the blade still retains its normal flexibility, yet stays sharp about three times longer than non-hardened teeth.
