Quick Overview

Manufactured in Japan by Silky Saws, the Pocket Boy range is affectionately dubbed the Little Giant as it is often used for jobs that a much bigger saw would be used for.

Pocket Boys are available in different tooth sizes, blade length and handle colours. The handle colour is matched to the tooth size. Pocket Boys are supplied in a perspex carry case that can be clipped to the belt or there is a hole in the handle for a carabiner clip.

The Silky Pocket Boy Folding Saws have four different colours for the different tooth sizes. The saws are designed to cut on the pull stroke. They have a hollow ground blade, which reduces friction when cutting. This allows the cutting stroke to feel very easy and fast.

The blades of the Pocket Boys are available in 13cm and 17 cm lengths.

Purple Handle Extra Fine Tooth  -  SKU 344-13 and SKU 344-17
Blue Handle Fine Tooth  -  SKU 342-13 and SKU 342-17
Black Handle Medium Tooth  -  SKU 340-13 and SKU 340-17
Red Handle Large Tooth  -  SKU 346-13 and SKU 346-17

The teeth are not set, they are what Silky call a Mirai-Me tooth style. This style of tooth creates a very smooth cut which leaves the branch so smooth that it will appear as though it has been given a light sand. This benefits the tree by reducing the chance of water and bacteria sitting on groves in the timber therefore allowing infection into the wound. This style of tooth also cuts a larger hole in the timber than the width of the blade, therefore reducing the chance of the blade jamming in the cut.
The blades are made out of a high carbon steel called SK4, this is a very strong steel but is also quite flexible, which is very important in a hand saw. The blades are also coated in chrome to give them some protection from rust and resin.

The Pocket boy saws have two settings on the blade. The first is a standard saw blade angle, the second has the blade pointing into the air. This angle allows you to cut to a flat surface or enables you to have the handle away from branches that are slowing and inconveniencing your cutting. The handles are made out of a special rubber designed by Silky Japan. It is called GOM and it is extremely comfortable to hold. It absorbs a lot of the vibrations you get when cutting, you still have a very good grip, even when your hands are damp. Everything on the Silky saws are replaceable. There are 4 tooth sizes in the Pocket Boy range and these blades are interchangeable with the handles. So if you would like this saw which is ideal for general and larger limb pruning, you could also purchase a replacement blade of the medium tooth which is ideal for carpentry and bamboo.
